Question
A seven-year-old boy has been frequently wiping his pants with feces for over a year. Although he has seen a doctor and undergone anal and ultrasound examinations, no abnormalities were found. The boy often says he has stomach pain and has experienced exacerbation of symptoms such as vomiting at school. Sometimes he appears very urgent, but when prompted to use the bathroom, he always says he’s not in a hurry until he can’t hold it anymore. Despite trying various methods, including scolding and gentle communication, there has been no effect. Is this a physical problem or a psychological one?
Answer
Upon discovering pediatric diarrhea, it is recommended to check the stool for analysis to determine if it is due to indigestion or enteritis. Attention should also be given to whether there is intestinal dysfunction caused by a cold. If indigestion is suspected, oral medications such as Shanyao Jianpi Oral Liquid or Simeta are recommended for treatment. If the condition is severe, medical consultation and intravenous treatment should be sought. Extend the interval between breastfeeding to allow the gastrointestinal tract to rest. Increase fluid intake. If supplementary foods are being introduced, they should be temporarily stopped or reduced. Gradually resume after improvement. Especially avoid indigestible foods.
