Question
My baby was born with open hands, and now at 2 months old, they rarely clench their fists. I’ve heard that newborns usually clench their fists for a while after birth, but why is my baby different?
Answer
A newborn’s failure to frequently clench their fists may be a normal sign of neurodevelopment, with each baby having a different developmental trajectory. However, if the baby exhibits other abnormal symptoms such as crooked mouth and eyes or seizures, it could be a sign of internal wind movement and should be promptly examined at a hospital. In most cases, there is no issue with the baby’s hand development and there is no need to be overly concerned. But if other abnormal phenomena are observed, they should be addressed promptly.
