Question

What’s causing a child’s head shaking?

Answer

If it’s just the child being playful, it’s usually not a big deal; parents can educate them accordingly. However, if the child shakes their head involuntarily, it may be necessary to consider whether they have a tic disorder. Tic disorder in children is a behavioral disorder caused by a dysfunction of the extrapyramidal system of the nervous system, common symptoms include squinting, eye rolling, head shaking, shrugging shoulders, flapping hands, nodding heads, kicking legs, writhing bodies, and even cursing. Severe cases may also be accompanied by abnormal throat sounds, such as humming, “ah,” or “cough” sounds that are emitted involuntarily.
