Question

The patient is 5 weeks old and often has nosebleeds, sometimes more, sometimes less. What’s going on?

Answer

There are many reasons for nosebleeds, including nasal trauma, mucosal scab formation, damage from acidic or alkaline substances, overexposure to the sun, excessive alcohol consumption, and more. Frequent nosebleeds may be complications of cardiovascular system diseases, internal organ disorders, various infections, blood diseases, and other conditions. During cold weather, blood vessels constrict, so a cotton ball, towel, or handkerchief soaked in cold water can be applied to the bridge of the nose. Within an hour, an ice pack can be placed on the bridge of the nose for 1-2 minutes at a time, with intervals of 2-3 minutes. If nosebleeds occur frequently, it is advisable to go to the hospital for a check-up to determine the cause and receive appropriate treatment.
