Question

How is infantile spasms treated with medication?

Answer

It is currently believed that the use of ACTH or oral corticosteroids is the most effective treatment for infantile spasms, especially for secondary cases. However, this treatment method has side effects such as easy recurrence, infection, high blood pressure, and electrolyte imbalance. Once a diagnosis is confirmed, treatment with corticosteroids should be started as soon as possible, but active infection should be ruled out. There is currently no standard treatment plan.
