Question
“How should unexplained jaundice be treated?”
Answer
“Jaundice can mainly be divided into obstructive and hepatocellular types. If a patient’s total bilirubin level is significantly elevated while the transaminases are not correspondingly elevated, it is referred to as ’elevated aminotransferases,’ which may indicate a higher probability of obstructive jaundice. Obstructive causes include gallstones and tumors. According to ERCP analysis, the possibility of gallstone obstruction is high. If endoscopic stone removal is difficult, a consultation with a hepatobiliary surgery specialist may be requested. Staying in the infectious disease department is not significant.”
