Question

How to distinguish between neonatal moles and port wine stains?

Answer

Port wine stains, also known as red birthmarks, are the second most common type after strawberry hemangiomas. They consist of numerous dilated capillaries and form relatively flat spots that are rarely raised, belonging to congenital capillary malformations. The size of the affected area can vary greatly, with some extending almost across the entire face or half of the trunk. Often, these stains appear as distinct pink, flat, and well-defined spots at birth and can fade when pressed.
