Question

The baby is now over four months old and exceeds the standard weight and height for their age. When the baby was three months old, the doctor recommended tummy time for support, but due to the approaching winter, the baby’s sleeves were too long, making it impossible to support the head. Additionally, the baby has no hair on the back of the head, and the doctor diagnosed a calcium deficiency, prescribing cod liver oil and calcium granules. At home, without the outer clothing, the baby can support their head. After taking cod liver oil and calcium granules for more than a month, should supplementation still be continued?

Answer

Infants grow and develop most rapidly in their first two years of life, with high nutritional needs. It is usually recommended to supplement vitamin A&D capsules (Icycin) and calcium supplements until 2-3 years of age. It is suggested to continue supplementing vitamin A&D capsules and calcium supplements for the baby until they reach 2-3 years old. During summer and autumn when sunlight is abundant, supplementation may not be necessary.
