Question
Why is my baby almost one week old and still doesn’t have any teeth? Is it lacking in trace elements, and how should I supplement them?
Answer
The primary teeth, also known as deciduous teeth, have their embryonic stage called tooth buds. These tooth buds begin to develop during the mother’s pregnancy. By the time the baby is born, there are already 20 tooth buds in the upper and lower jaws. These tooth buds then start to develop roots after the baby is born. Around six months of age, the primary teeth begin to emerge, starting with the lower incisors, followed by the upper incisors. By about two and a half years old, all 20 primary teeth will have grown out. Therefore, if a one-week-old baby hasn’t grown any teeth yet, parents should not worry. Wishing your baby a healthy growth.
