Question
A child has red bumps on the left side of their buttocks and a hard lump inside the right side of their buttocks. How should pediatric perianal abscess be treated?
Answer
Generally, if a pediatric perianal abscess develops within a week, it typically requires incision and drainage or to wait for spontaneous rupture. Most often, the abscess will develop into a fistula, which may take a longer time to heal and may recur. Usually, most children under two years old can recover. Treatment measures include cleaning the child’s buttocks with diluted potassium permanganate (PP powder) and spraying the red bumps with an antiseptic amikacin solution twice a day. Maintaining cleanliness around the anus is very important. Additionally, during this period, the use of diapers should be reduced, and the child’s buttocks should be cleaned frequently.
