Question

My child sweats heavily after sleeping every night, like washing clothes, and needs to change clothes multiple times. They still sweat two to three hours after going to bed. They also sweat easily when they are active during the day, and it’s cold sweat. Otherwise, they are fine and in good spirits. Could you please diagnose this for me? Thank you!

Answer

It is normal for children to sweat, as children have more developed sweat glands, which are controlled by the autonomic nervous system (vagus nerve). After falling asleep, the vagus nerve becomes excited, leading to excessive sweating, usually more on the head and face, but it will ease within one or two hours after sleep. If they continue to sweat heavily after sleep, it may be due to autonomic nervous system dysfunction, and some cases might be caused by calcium deficiency. Additionally, children who are active and have high levels of physical activity are prone to sweating easily.
