Question
Why does my baby’s palate have white spots?
Answer
White spots on your baby’s palate could be caused by a number of things. One common cause is Oral thrush which is a type of yeast infection that can occur in babies, it appears as creamy white patches on the tongue, gums, and inside of the cheeks. Another possible cause is Epstein’s pearls, which are common, harmless cysts that affect approximately 80% of infants. They are small, white bumps that appear on the roof of the mouth or gums of newborns.
However, these are only a few potential causes. It is important you contact a healthcare provider to get an accurate diagnosis. Importantly, if these white spots are accompanied by other symptoms (such as difficulty swallowing, poor feeding, fever etc), it’s recommended to seek medical attention immediately.
