Question

If one parent has strabismus, is there a genetic risk for the child? How can we prevent strabismus in children?

Answer

Preventing pediatric strabismus can be approached from the following five aspects:

  1. Begin to observe a child’s eye development and changes from infancy, and seek timely examination and treatment if any issues are detected.
  2. Strengthen care during periods of fever, rash, and weaning, and regularly check the coordination function of both eyes to observe for any abnormal eye positions.
  3. Pay attention to a child’s eye hygiene and eye habits, control the use of electronic products, ensure proper lighting, avoid reading while lying down, and limit time spent watching TV, playing video games, and using computers.
