Question

What should parents do when their child has a seizure?

Answer

  1. Stay by the patient’s side and wait for the seizure to stop.
  2. Quickly support the patient to prevent falls and place them on a flat or safe surface.
  3. Loosen the collar and sleeves to ensure airway unobstructed, and tilt the patient’s head and body to one side to prevent saliva or mucus from entering the airway.
  4. Observe carefully which parts of the body are twitching during the seizure, whether there is consciousness or awareness, and record the duration of the seizure for a detailed description to the doctor.
  5. If the seizure lasts more than 10 minutes without relief, or if there are multiple seizures within 10 minutes, contact emergency services or take the child to the hospital immediately.
