Question
What should parents do when their child has a seizure?
Answer
- Stay by the patient’s side and wait for the seizure to stop.
- Quickly support the patient to prevent falls and place them on a flat or safe surface.
- Loosen the collar and sleeves to ensure airway unobstructed, and tilt the patient’s head and body to one side to prevent saliva or mucus from entering the airway.
- Observe carefully which parts of the body are twitching during the seizure, whether there is consciousness or awareness, and record the duration of the seizure for a detailed description to the doctor.
- If the seizure lasts more than 10 minutes without relief, or if there are multiple seizures within 10 minutes, contact emergency services or take the child to the hospital immediately.
