Question
I’m experiencing hearing loss and discomfort, with a sensation of my ear being blocked. How should I handle inflammation of the preauricular fistula?
Answer
In case of infection and abscess formation, antibiotic or sulfonamide medications can be administered, such as penicillin, 800,000 units per dose, administered by intramuscular injection (be sure to conduct an allergy test); or erythromycin, 0.25g per dose, taken orally three times a day. If a abscess forms, it should be promptly incised to drain pus, with regional cleaning and disinfection, and the use of iodophor gauze for dressing changes; once the redness subsides and the infection is controlled, a fistula excision surgery can be performed. It is crucial to remove the fistula completely in one session to avoid recurrent infection from any remaining portion of the fistula, as repeat surgery would yield poor results.
