Question
My father was able to see clearly before he was 39 years old, but now he has glaucoma and can’t see things clearly. What should he not eat with glaucoma?
Answer
Patients with glaucoma should avoid spicy, greasy foods, as well as alcohol, strong tea, and coffee, which can increase intraocular pressure. It is recommended to consume light foods, avoid high-fat and high-sugar foods, eat less irritating foods, and moderation consume diuretic foods such as honey, watermelons, and cucumbers to help lower intraocular pressure. Additionally, eating should be regular, avoid overeating and binging, and increase the intake of foods rich in dietary fiber such as fresh vegetables, fruits, and tonifying liver and kidney foods like goji berries, peanuts, walnuts, and soy milk.
