Question
A 3-year-old child has been diagnosed with adenoid hypertrophy, experiencing difficulty breathing and snoring at night. I would like to inquire if adenoid hypertrophy is easy to treat?
Answer
Adenoid hypertrophy is generally easy to treat. Given the child’s young age, it is advisable to first take the child to the hospital for a check-up. If the symptoms are not severe, conservative medication treatment can be considered. The adenoids tend to shrink gradually with age, especially after the age of 6 when they no longer grow and start to regress around the age of 8. Therefore, through active non-surgical treatment, particularly by eliminating non-specific respiratory inflammation, the child can avoid surgery. However, if the child’s symptoms do not improve or worsen gradually, surgery may need to be considered.
