Question

My child has been unwell since birth, and the recent check-up says they have adenoid hypertrophy. What is adenoid hypertrophy?

Answer

Adenoid hypertrophy refers to the pathological enlargement of the adenoids due to repeated inflammation stimulation, leading to corresponding symptoms. It is common in children, but some adults can also experience it, often accompanied by chronic tonsillitis. It usually occurs due to recurrent acute and chronic nasopharyngitis, as well as inflammation of nearby organs such as the nasal cavity, sinus, and tonsils, which can also affect the nasopharynx and stimulate the growth of adenoid tissue.
