Question
Our child was diagnosed with epilepsy at a young age. How should we handle the situation if our child has epilepsy?
Answer
- Move any hard objects away and assist the child in lying on their side to allow saliva to drain, ensuring the airway remains clear.
- If the child’s mouth is open during the seizure, quickly use a tongue depressor or chopsticks wrapped in cloth and place it between the upper and lower teeth to prevent them from biting their tongue.
- After the seizure stops, it may take a few minutes, several minutes, or even several hours for the child to return to normal.
