Question

Our child was diagnosed with epilepsy at a young age. How should we handle the situation if our child has epilepsy?

Answer

  1. Move any hard objects away and assist the child in lying on their side to allow saliva to drain, ensuring the airway remains clear.
  2. If the child’s mouth is open during the seizure, quickly use a tongue depressor or chopsticks wrapped in cloth and place it between the upper and lower teeth to prevent them from biting their tongue.
  3. After the seizure stops, it may take a few minutes, several minutes, or even several hours for the child to return to normal.
