Question
My child is 18 months old and suspected of having adenoid hypertrophy. Can they undergo examination and treatment?
Answer
Adenoid hypertrophy often occurs due to incomplete recovery from a cold, leading to persistent nasal congestion. This may cause facial deformities, affect intelligence, and increase the risk of otitis media. At this point, surgical treatment or iontophoresis should be considered. For children over four or five years old with less severe conditions, observation and waiting can be an option, as the adenoids may naturally shrink around the age of ten.
