Question

Is surgery necessary for a 5-year-old boy who has been diagnosed with adenoid hypertrophy?

Answer

Adenoid hypertrophy is commonly seen in children with unresolved colds and coughs, or chronic nasal congestion, which may lead to facial deformities, intellectual impairment, and otitis media. Generally, it is recommended to undergo surgery early on, or sometimes ion therapy can be considered. In mild cases, observation until around the age of ten may be an option, and some cases may naturally regress.
