Question
My child, who is 4 years old, has often had a blocked nose since the age of 2. A check-up revealed adenoid hypertrophy, and medication helped improve the condition. However, the blockage has become severe again recently. How should I handle this?
Answer
Adenoid hypertrophy is often caused by unresolved colds in children. Prolonged nasal congestion can lead to facial abnormalities, affect intelligence, and easily trigger otitis media. Early surgery or consideration of ion therapy may be necessary. If the condition is not severe, children around the age of 5 can be observed until around the age of 10, as there is a chance of spontaneous shrinkage.
