Question
My daughter has been snoring loudly while sleeping recently, often breathing through her mouth, as if her breathing is not smooth, and she has also been wetting the bed more frequently. Could this be a symptom of adenoid hypertrophy?
Answer
Adenoid hypertrophy is often caused by incomplete recovery from a cold in children, with prolonged nasal congestion potentially leading to facial deformation, affecting intelligence, and possibly triggering otitis media. Early surgical treatment should be considered. For mild adenoid hypertrophy, if the condition develops after the child is around four or five years old and the symptoms are not severe, observation and waiting can be done. Around the age of ten, there is a chance of spontaneous shrinkage.
