Question

Is it easy for children who have had adenoid hypertrophy surgery to have a recurrence? What are the reasons for recurrence?

Answer

Adenoid hypertrophy often occurs due to incomplete recovery from a child’s cold, with long-term nasal congestion potentially leading to facial deformation, affecting intelligence, and even causing otitis media. Therefore, early surgical treatment should be considered. For adenoid hypertrophy, iontophoresis can also be considered. For children aged 4 to 5 years and older, if the condition is not severe, observation and waiting can be chosen until around the age of 10, when the adenoids may naturally shrink.
