Question
A friend’s child has glaucoma and wants to know the difficulty level of treating this disease.
Answer
Glaucoma in children may be present with abnormal eye corner structures at birth, but symptoms may appear during adolescence. Infants may exhibit symptoms such as photophobia, tearing, and eyelid spasms. Due to their softer eye walls, pressure can lead to abnormal enlargement of the eyes, also known as “water eyes.” Therefore, if you notice that an infant has photophobia, tearing, eyelid spasms, abnormal enlargement of the eyes, or cloudy pupils with a grayish hue, you should seek medical attention immediately for early treatment and to protect vision.
