Question
Is there a problem if a 1.5-year-old baby urinates frequently? Do they need treatment?
Answer
The process of urination is controlled by the brain and related nerves, causing the bladder to contract and expel urine. Newborns have underdeveloped elastic tissue in their bladders, resulting in poor urinary storage capacity and inadequate control of urinary regulation. Additionally, their kidneys have insufficient function in concentrating urine, and since infants’ diet consists of fluids, this leads to frequent urination, possibly up to ten or more times a day.
