Question

Why does my baby sweat on the head frequently, whether they are playing during the day or napping at night? What other reasons could there be besides possible calcium deficiency when they feel scared or are sick?

Answer

It is a common phenomenon for young babies to sweat during deep sleep, and it does not necessarily indicate a weak constitution or illness. Many parents may think that this is a sign of their child’s weak constitution. In reality, many children experience physiological hyperhidrosis during their growth process. Physiological hyperhidrosis is often seen in the head and neck areas, usually occurring half an hour after falling asleep and stopping within an hour. During infancy, due to vigorous metabolism and the children’s lively and active nature, even when lying in bed at night, they cannot stay still, leading to sweating on the head. Physiological hyperhidrosis refers to a child who is growing well and healthy with no disease-induced sweating during deep sleep. Parents often get used to choosing the appropriate temperature for their children based on their subjective feelings, preferring to cover their children with more blankets and keep them warm. Since the child’s nervous system is not fully developed yet and they are in the stage of growth and development, their metabolism is very vigorous, coupled with the stimulation of overheating, only through sweating can they evaporate the heat in their bodies and adjust to normal body temperature.
