Question

How should one handle children who frequently cry at night, talk in their sleep, or even experience night walking?

Answer

Children spend most of their time in deep sleep. Newborns require about 16 hours of sleep a day, which gradually decreases as they grow older to about 8 hours a day for adults. For crying, talking in one’s sleep, and night walking, the following measures are recommended:

  1. Adjust the sleep environment by dimming the lights and keeping it quiet.
  2. Establish a bedtime routine, such as changing into pajamas, drinking milk, and washing face.
  3. Place favorite toys or blankets to soothe emotions.
  4. Play bedtime music or read a story by the bed.
  5. If the child has difficulty falling asleep, stay beside them to encourage rest with closed eyes.
