Question
A three-month-old baby has three soft lumps in the scrotum, visible in addition to the testicles. Two of them are not visible when the scrotum is contracted but are very obvious when it is relaxed. These three lumps have only been noticed recently, and I want to know if it is absolutely necessary to drain the fluid.
Answer
Hydrocele fluid accumulation in the tunica vaginalis is known as hydrocele, a common condition usually treated through high-position drainage surgery. The purpose of the surgery is to perform high-position drainage at the internal ring, to cut off the downward flow of abdominal fluid, and not to resolve the lower hernia sac. Hydrocele rarely recurs after surgical treatment, but incorrect diagnosis of congenital hydrocele or incomplete removal of multilocular hernia may lead to complications.
