Question

A few days ago, the child had some heart fire and vomited twice at night. Today, after eating lunch and playing on an adult’s lap, the baby suddenly had dilated eyes, purple lips, and then lost consciousness. After being taken to the restroom, the baby regained consciousness after being stimulated at the ’ Renzhong ’ point. Is this due to being choked by phlegm or other reasons?

Answer

If an EEG shows abnormalities, the child may have a higher possibility of epilepsy. If this condition recurs without a clear cause, it is primary epilepsy; if it is secondary to brain tumors, trauma, infection, parasitic disease, stroke, or systemic diseases, it is secondary epilepsy. It is recommended to go to a regular hospital for further diagnosis with an EEG, brain mapping, dynamic EEG monitoring, and CT scan of the head. If diagnosed with epilepsy, please take antiepileptic drugs such as carbamazepine or sodium valproate under physician guidance. The treatment of epilepsy requires systematic regulation and strict adherence to medical instructions. In daily life, be mindful of some first-aid measures:

  1. Anesthesia with Western medicine: Use 10-20 mg of diazepam intravenously for immediate control. However, be cautious not to exceed 2 mg/minute of anesthesia speed. If respiratory depression occurs, stop the anesthesia immediately.
  2. Acupuncture: During an attack, quickly use a 1-1.5 inch needle at the ‘Neiguan’ point on the arm for lifting and thrusting to control the seizure. The Neiguan point is located two cun above the wrist crease between the two tendons.
