Question

What is ADHD and Tic Disorders, and what are the differences between them?

Answer

ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) and Tic Disorders are two separate neurodevelopmental conditions. ADHD is primarily characterized by inattention, poor impulse control, and hyperactivity, symptoms that often emerge during childhood and can negatively impact a child’s learning, social interactions, and daily life. Tic Disorders, on the other hand, are a condition marked by involuntary muscle twitches, which can include movements of the face, limbs, or trunk, or vocal tics such as throat clearing or coughing sounds. The symptoms of ADHD and Tic Disorders are different and do not exclude each other; some individuals may have both conditions.
