Question

What’s causing your baby’s crossed eyes?

Answer

Strabismus is a congenital disorder, primarily caused by an imbalance in the muscles inside or outside the eye. Severe cases can significantly affect vision, and it is recommended to first use corrective glasses for adjustment. If this is not effective, surgery may be necessary. The term “crossed eyes,” also known as convergence strabismus in medical terms, refers to one eye being positioned normally while the other eye is deviated towards the nose root. With timely treatment, it generally does not lead to amblyopia, and about 80% of cases can heal without surgery. Of course, if treatment is delayed beyond the infant stage, the effectiveness is significantly reduced. Even surgery can only address aesthetic issues and not correct vision.
