Question

What is the normal body temperature for children?

Answer

Generally, we use three locations to measure a child’s body temperature: the rectum, mouth, and armpit.

  • The normal body temperature range when measured in the rectum is between 36.5℃ and 37.5℃.
  • The normal body temperature range when measured in the mouth is between 36.2℃ and 37.3℃.
  • The normal body temperature range when measured under the armpit is between 35.9℃ and 37.2℃. When the body temperature exceeds these ranges by more than 0.5℃, we refer to it as a fever. A fever below 38℃ is called a low fever, and one above 39℃ is called a high fever.
