Question

The baby’s gums have small white dots, a bit hard, refuses to breastfeed, and cries and whines. How should it be treated?

Answer

The baby may have ulcerative stomatitis, an inflammation caused by Streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pneumoniae, which is common in infants, especially during acute and chronic infections. Symptoms include localized pain and fever. General treatment includes maintaining good oral hygiene and enhancing nutrition. Medications may include cleaning the mouth and applying lidocaine to the ulcers for severe pain, allowing 5 to 10 minutes before eating. Local applications of Bicillin can be used. To control infection, antibiotics can be selected based on the cause. Supportive treatment includes providing adequate nutrition and fluids, as well as supplementing with various vitamins.
