Question

What medication should I use for my child’s diarrhea?

Answer

Infant diarrhea may be caused by either rapid gastrointestinal motility or disease. If the child is eating and sleeping well, maintains a good mental state, and experiences normal weight gain, it may be physiological diarrhea and no treatment is needed. However, if there is a decrease in appetite or poor mental state, it may indicate pathological diarrhea, which requires timely treatment. Common medications include Simethicone, Lijuzhichang, and Children’s Healthy Stomach Oral Liquid, among others. Generally, symptoms improve within 3-5 days of treatment. If treatment is ineffective, a stool test should be conducted to determine the cause.
