Question
The newborn’s fingers have turned blue, and so have the lips. Everything else seems normal. The previous treatment and outcome were without a history of illness. The newborn wants to know what impact this condition has on the child’s health, whether there is any danger, and how to treat it if there is harm to the child?
Answer
Blue lips are often seen in congenital heart disease and require an echocardiogram to rule out the condition. If the echocardiogram results are normal, further examinations are needed to rule out other diseases. It is recommended to undergo a CT or MRI of the head, an EEG, as well as an echocardiogram or chest X-ray to confirm the diagnosis.
