Question
Patient Age: 28 days, developed jaundice on the third day after birth, which has not completely subsided. The doctor suggested blue light therapy, but it was not performed due to certain reasons. Can I ask whether vaccines can be administered when the baby is one month old?
Answer
Generally, vaccines can be administered to infants when the serum bilirubin level is below 7 (unit not specified). The normal range for newborn jaundice is based on serum bilirubin levels, with full-term infants not exceeding 204μmol/L (12mg/dl) and premature infants not exceeding 255μmol/L (15mg/dl) as normal. Physiological jaundice, besides skin yellowing, has little impact on appetite and spirit, and symptoms usually resolve automatically within a month. If there is jaundice, more sun exposure can promote metabolism, and it is recommended to feed on demand to allow the baby to urinate and defecate more frequently to help expel the jaundice. Additionally, probiotics can be given to assist in the regression of jaundice.
