Question

How should infant diarrhea be treated?

Answer

If the infant’s food is breast milk, it is recommended to continue breastfeeding and to feed more foremilk than hindmilk to absorb more protein than fat. If the infant’s food is not breast milk and has already started on complementary foods, it is advisable to control food choices, selecting mild, soft, low in oil, and easily digestible foods. Reduce the amount of food intake by feeding small amounts multiple times. If necessary, temporarily stop feeding complementary foods and use specialized diarrhea formula. After the diarrhea has ended, normal diet should be gradually resumed.
