A two-year-old child was seen on August 15th, with symptoms of tonsillitis appearing on August 8th. At the initial visit, the blood white cell count was 28.4. After several days of intravenous treatment (including penicillin and cephalosporin antibiotics, the last being azithromycin), the blood white cell count had dropped to 20.6, but then rose back to 26.6, and dropped to 19 yesterday. The parents inquired whether they should continue with intravenous fluids or switch to oral medication for treatment.
