Question
Why shouldn’t children use electric heaters?
Answer
- Using electric heaters may cause dehydration. Since children’s brains are still developing, their thermoregulatory center is not fully matured, making it difficult for them to effectively regulate body temperature and they are easily affected by environmental temperatures. Electric heaters heat up quickly, and when the temperature in the bed rises rapidly, the child’s body temperature can also rise suddenly. This leads to the loss of body moisture through the skin and respiratory tract, which may result in dehydration over time. Dehydration can further raise body temperature, creating a vicious cycle.
- Using electric heaters may trigger electric leakage accidents. Children have weak control over urination, bedwetting is common. After bedwetting, it may cause electric leakage in the heater, with unimaginable consequences. In conclusion, it is not recommended to use electric heaters for children. If they must be used, the heater should be turned on before bedtime to warm up the bed, but it should be immediately turned off once the child gets into bed. Children are active and energetic; as the saying goes, “children have three pots of fire on their buttocks,” they are not afraid of the cold and do not need a warm bed. If they get used to the temperature of the electric heater, it may reduce their resistance to coldness, weaken their immune system, and affect their growth and development, so it is not recommended to use it. If you are really worried about them catching a cold, you can add a layer of towel blanket inside the sheets; its soft surface can reduce the cold sensation when the skin comes into contact with the sheets.
