Question

A one-and-a-half-year-old girl has a small urethral opening, partially covered by a film. When she urinates, it is like a boy’s jet-like spray and covers a greater distance. What should be done about this?

Answer

This may involve congenital abnormalities in the vaginal opening. It is recommended to go to the hospital for an ultrasound examination to confirm the normality of the uterus and the presence of the vagina. Usually, if only the vaginal opening is not open, the vaginal opening can be reconstructed through surgery, which will not affect future sexual life. Approximately one in every four to five thousand female infants is congenitally lacking a vagina, and may also not have a uterus. Fortunately, the vagina can be reconstructed through surgery, almost without affecting their sexual life. In cases where there is no vagina at all, an ultrasound should first be done to check for the presence of the uterus and its appendages before proceeding with further treatment.
