Question

Can enuresis heal naturally? If so, how can it be cured?

Answer

The likelihood of enuresis healing naturally is not high. Usually, medication treatment is needed to improve the condition. One treatment method involves using clomipramine, taken once a day, one hour before bedtime. For children under 7 years old, the dosage is 10 mg plus 20 mg. After the treatment takes effect, continue taking the same dosage for three months, then gradually reduce the dosage to the same amount every two nights before bedtime, continuing for a month and a half. Then, take the medication every three days for another month and a half, until stopping the medication, with the total treatment duration being six months. Additionally, low-dose clomipramine can also be used for treatment. This medication has an anticholinergic effect on the bladder, which can expand bladder capacity and stimulate the cerebral cortex to make patients more alert and wake up to urinate. During the treatment process, some patients may experience symptoms such as sleep disturbances, decreased appetite, or being easily excited at the beginning of treatment, but these symptoms usually disappear on their own within one to two weeks and usually do not require special treatment. If there is an improvement in the patient’s enuresis symptoms, never interrupt the training. Otherwise, the established conditioned reflexes may disappear, leading to wasted effort from previous attempts. This also suggests that in the treatment process of enuresis, continuous treatment and maintaining the effectiveness of treatment are very important.
