Question
Why is my daughter’s stool green?
Answer
Babies experiencing green stool. If the baby is being breastfed, as long as the milk intake is normal, the baby is in good spirits, sleeps well, and gains weight normally, no special treatment is necessary. If the baby is on mixed feeding, it’s important to determine if the baby has eaten enough. If the baby hasn’t eaten enough, the intestinal peristalsis will speed up, leading to green stool. In this case, simply increasing the milk intake to ensure the baby eats enough should resolve the issue. Catching a cold is also a common reason for rapid intestinal peristalsis and green stool. Green stool caused by this reason may also be accompanied by symptoms like a cold. If there is only green stool, pay attention to abdominal warmth, especially at night, and it will recover after a few days. If there are cold symptoms, concurrent symptomatic treatment for the cold should be administered. Additionally, if not only green stool but also frequent and watery stools occur with diarrhea, it is advisable to seek medical attention promptly and have a stool examination. Further symptomatic treatment should then be administered.
