Question

Why is my 15-month-old baby frequently urinating at night? Could it be related to drinking formula milk before bed?

Answer

After introducing solid foods, a baby’s water intake may increase, which can lead to frequent nighttime urination. However, if the baby is only urinating frequently without other symptoms such as fever or pain during urination, this may be a sign of “infantile neurogenic frequency.” This condition is usually caused by underdeveloped bladder detrusor muscles and an immature nervous system. Babies of this age can start to stop night feeds; having a small drink one hour before bedtime should be sufficient. If you are concerned, it is advisable to take the baby to the hospital for a check-up.
