Question
The patient is 50 days old and has experienced water vomiting multiple times before feeding (more watery than milk, less thick than milk), and would like to inquire about the possible cause?
Answer
The baby’s water vomiting may be related to gastroesophageal reflux disease or functional gastrointestinal disorder, possibly due to catching a cold or disordered stomach motility. If the baby continues to vomit, it is not advisable to feed them temporarily. They can receive intravenous fluids to replenish energy and nutrition, and symptomatic anti-inflammatory medication can be administered to stop the vomiting. It is particularly important to note that these symptoms should exclude pyloric stenosis, which requires confirmation through a gastroscopy. To help the baby, place them on their back and gently press the right palm root against the abdominal muscles from the upper right quadrant to the upper left quadrant and then to the upper right quadrant, repeating this direction with light pressure. The technique should not be too forceful, and each session should last about ten minutes. Perform this twice or three times a day. Wishing the baby good health.
