Question

My baby is 8 months old and recently developed breast swelling and hard lumps. The prolactin test shows slightly elevated levels. What should I do?

Answer

If there were no other abnormalities before pregnancy and no fetal abnormalities were found during the prenatal check-ups, you can wait until the baby is born for further examination. If prolactin levels are slightly elevated, it is recommended to undergo a brain MRI to rule out pituitary adenomas, which may require surgical treatment. If no adenomas are found, bromocriptine can be used for treatment. At the same time, it is suggested to investigate the mother’s condition, which may help identify the cause. Elevated prolactin levels have limited impact on the baby.
