Question

What Are the Symptoms of Neonatal Pneumonia?

Answer

The main manifestations of neonatal pneumonia include increased respiratory rate, frothy saliva, phlegm sounds in the throat, nasal congestion, poor mental response, and a decrease in the amount of breast milk consumed. Some neonates may experience increased vomiting and diarrhea. More severe symptoms may include coughing, which is usually not severe and occasionally accompanied by fever, although fever is not common. Severe pneumonia may present with difficulty breathing, bluish discoloration of the face or lips, refusal to breastfeed, abdominal distension, and even signs of heart or respiratory failure.
