Question
Are tic disorders and ADHD the same?
Answer
The distinction between tic disorders and ADHD is relatively easy to identify. Tic disorder patients may experience motor tics such as blinking, shrugging, and head shaking, even with vocal tics. ADHD does not present with these symptoms, often manifesting as attention deficits, hyperactivity, excessive fidgeting, and aimless movements. Even impulsive and obstinate behaviors may occur. However, both conditions can occur together. If a patient exhibits symptoms of both, early intervention is recommended.
