Question

A seven-month-old baby has fallen from the bed, and the parents want to know if this could affect the child’s brain development, intelligence, or whether there might be brain diseases later in life.

Answer

An infant’s skull is very hard, usually not causing brain injury due to a fall. Crying is a normal response, and if the baby doesn’t cry, that might be a cause for concern. If the baby does not exhibit symptoms of vomiting or nausea, there is usually no need to worry. If parents still feel anxious, they can take the child to a neurosurgery department for a brain CT scan to confirm if there is any injury. In most cases, there should be no problem, and if it’s not severe, there’s no need to be overly worried.
