Jaundice is a stage that all infants go through during their growth process, and pathological jaundice does not need to be overly worried about. By following the doctor’s advice, giving the child medication on time, and providing proper care, recovery can be expected quickly. Neonatal jaundice (pathological): 1) Infections, ① Neonatal hepatitis, most commonly caused by viruses transmitted through the placenta to the fetus or through the birth canal, with cytomegalovirus and hepatitis B virus being more common; ② Neonatal sepsis, urinary tract infection, caused by bacterial toxins slowing down red blood cell destruction and damaging liver cells. 2) Non-infections: ① Neonatal hemolytic disease; ② Biliary atresia; ③ Breast milk jaundice; ④ Delayed excretion of meconium; ⑤ Genetic diseases such as red blood cell 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency; ③ Drug-induced jaundice such as vitamin K. Also, other conditions like hypoglycemia, acidosis, water inhalation, skin breakdown, and dehydration can all contribute to jaundice. Symptoms: ① Jaundice reappears within 24 hours; ② Severe jaundice with rapid expansion, serum bilirubin >205 umol/L (12 mg/dl).
